Overview:
Pro-Bed 2000 was specifically designed to address the particular issues of epoxy stock bedding.
- Full cure is achieved in approximately 16 hours using a non-critical mix ratio of 1:1 with a working time of 60 to 90 minutes.
- It has an excellent consistency for the application and will flow into all voids of the stock but still stay where it’s put.
- It is not brittle, and can be easily carved, ground, or machined without softening or chipping, even in very thin sections.
- Pro-Bed 2000 uses high compressive strength microscopic spheres and carbon fiber that give the epoxy greater flexural and compressive strength while completely eliminating shrinkage problems.
- With Pro-Bed 2000 it is easy for both professional gunsmiths and novices to achieve good results and produce a finished product free of voids and surface imperfections.
- All Pro-Bed 2000 kits come with a generous amount of an extremely high quality mold release agent that is both easy to apply and easy to clean off while giving you the best possible surface finish and debonding characteristics.
Product Details:
Epoxy Components:
- The components of Pro-Bed 2000 epoxy are:
- resin
- curing agent
- structural additives
- pigment
- These components have been chosen specifically for:
- Compatibility with each other;
- Providing the necessary characteristics needed for successful stock bedding;
- Health and safety issues
- The components of Pro-Bed 2000 are among the safest available;
- Pro-Bed 2000 is NOT considered HazMat or ORMD.
Resin:
The resin used in Pro-Bed 2000 was selected for:
- High physical strength to complement the structural additives;
- Excellent chemical resistance to withstand common firearms cleaners;
- Dimensional stability;
- Developed for formulations with the type of structural additives used in Pro-Bed 2000;
- Excellent resistance to settling of pigments and fillers for uniform coloring and composition;
- Resistant to foaming to avoid air pockets so the finished project is free of voids and surface imperfections.
Curing Agent:
- The curing agent determines the physical properties of the cured epoxy.
- The curing agent used in Pro-Bed 2000 was selected for:
- Non-critical mix ratio for ease of use and consistently successful results;
- Excellent chemical resistance to withstand common firearms cleaners;
- Excellent adhesion for a successful project;
- No foaming to avoid air pockets so the finished project is free of voids and surface imperfections;
- No exothermic reactions (heating during mixing and curing) even when mixed in large quantities;
- Compatibility with the epoxy resin and structural additives used in Pro-Bed 2000;
- Health concerns – this is one of the safest curing agents available.
Structural Additives:
- Pro-Bed 2000 uses only the highest quality structural additives. Pro-Bed 2000 does NOT contain talc or anything that does not enhance structural integrity. The additives used are expensive engineered products, not cheap fillers.
- The additives used are designed to:
- reduce shrinkage
- reduce warpage
- increase compressive strength
- increase flexural strength
- The high compression strength microspheres used are perfectly round and will roll over each other. This results in an easy to mix formula with even distribution that requires very little liquid epoxy resin to lubricate the spheres so that they can flow.
- The size of the microspheres used in Pro-Bed 2000 range from 3 to 25 microns in diameter. Because of this size distribution, there are very small spheres between the larger spheres displacing even more epoxy resin.
- The shrinkage problem is eliminated and compressive strength is enhanced to more resemble the compressive strength of the microspheres by displacing more of the epoxy resin. The crush strength of the microspheres ranges from 10,000 to 60,000 PSI.
- The microspheres are surface treated so they bond well with the epoxy resin.
- The type and compatibility of the resin and structural additives used in Pro-Bed 2000 results in a cured epoxy that is not brittle. The cured epoxy can easily be carved, ground, or machined without softening or chipping, even in very thin sections.
Pigments:
- Pro-Bed 2000 is available pre-pigmented in the two most common stock colors – brown and black.
- The pigments used are chosen specifically for compatibility with the resin used in Pro-Bed 2000.
- The pigments have an EEW (Epoxide Equivalent Weight) of 190 similar to the parent resin, allowing it to cure along with the resin and not take away from the cured properties.
Mold Release:
- The mold release included with the Pro-Bed 2000 kit is a specialty industrial product, NOT a commonly available generic one.
- It is a parting compound that is used in epoxy applications in industries where reliability and compatibility are critical.
